Ongoing news of the Bears' apparent strong interest in soon-to-be free-agent defensiveend Julius Pepperscertainly won't be filed under Brett Favre's "Reasons to Return" column.
The last time Favre saw Peppers, the latter was beating the snot out of the former during a prime-time smackdown at Carolina. Left tackle Bryant McKinnie was but a ineffective speed bump between Peppers' right end position and Favre's 40-year-old body.
If the Bears acquire Peppers, Big Mac and Peppers would go at it twice a year. Did Favre just say ouch?
While we're onlykidding that a Peppers' signing in Chicago would affect Favre's decision, one has to admit it would make theBears significantly better. As the Vikings discovered pre-Jared Allen, this kind of defense doesn't work that well without a pass rush from the front line.

Pepperswill be the best availableplayer when free agency starts at 11:01 p.m. CT onMarch 4.
