Sharper, Saints' defense have Super swagger

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Media day was relatively calm, as far as Super Bowl media days go.

I only saw one dope using a hand puppet to ask questions. And only one woman wearing a crown and wings.

One thing I noticed, blog-wise, as I was trying to do my day job of writing for a newspaper was the swagger the Saints' defense is carrying with it into this game.

Let's face it. The key to this game is how the Saints perform on third down against Peyton Manning. And the key to stopping Manning is putting him in third-and-long and then basically beating the tar out of him.

That's hard to do because, A, Manning doesn't allow the Colts to get in many third-and-longs. And B, he doesn't take too many sacks.

But the Saints are talking like a team that's going to put as much of a hurting on Manning as they did on Brett Favre in the NFCtitle game.

The Saints didn't sack Favre, but they weren't afraid to take a personal foul penalty in order to rattle him with hard hits that were late, borderline late or, as we found out from the league, late but not called.

Gregg Williams instills that mentality into his team and then says, "We aren't going to apologize for it."
