As Vikings quarterbacks coachKevin Rogers gets set to interview for the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator's job today -- he will be the third person to meet with general manager Jerry Angelo and coach Lovie Smith, according to the Chicago Tribune -- there are indications that Rogers' real desire might be to return to the collegiate ranks.
Rogers, 58,has spent many of his 35 years in coaching working at the college level and has had his name recently associated with the offensive coordinator's jobs at Virginia and Syracuse.
"There's no place I'd rather live than back [in Virginia]," Rogers told the Newport News Daily Press. "I'm home there. I went to college there. I coached at William & Mary. Icoached in Virginia Beach [at Bayside High]. I coached at Tech. The largest portion of my football career was spent in that state. As you get older, things you might have jumped at when you were a younger coach, you have to evaluate a little more now."
If Rogers does want to return to being a coordinator, his safest bet might be at Virginia or Syracuse. Smith doesn't exactly have great job security in Chicago these days and that's part of the reason prospectivecandidates haven't been jumping at the chance to interview for the coordinator's position.
